I like to have a refreshing beverage when it is as warm as it has been. Admittedly, I am not a water drinker. Oh, I’ll drink it – if that is all there is. However, I am not a soda drinker, and I know how many calories are in juices. I don’t like the idea of all the chemicals that are in those lovely tubes that you just pour into a 16.2 oz bottle of water. Well, what’s left?
Frugality and creativity. My version of an alcohol-free classic beverage – Sangria Fruit Punch.
For Simple Syrup
1 c water
1 c white sugar (Personal Pantry)
1/2 c mint leaves, whole or rough chopped (Food Pantry)
~ Boil water and sugar until sugar is thoroughly dissolved. Turn off heat and cool, about 10 minutes.
~ Add the mint leaves.
1 lemon, sliced thin (Food Pantry)
1 cup cherries, halved and pitted (On Hand)
1/4 c sugar
~ Add the sliced lemons to the still-warm simple syrup and stir. Let cool a bit more, but not fully.
~ Muddle the cherries and 1/4 c sugar in the container you are using to store the juice. Pour still-warm simple syrup mix over the cherry and sugar mixture.
Store in refrigerator. Serve over ice, or combine with a fruit tea.
